blog:TIMBERLAND’S “BOOTS IN THE BAYOU” TO AID IN GULF COAST RENEWAL EFFORTS
Aug 21st, 2009 by admin

The Timberland Company will take its unique passion for community to greater New Orleans this week when it convenes more than 800 volunteers in a three-day service
event to help rebuild neighborhoods impacted by Hurricane Katrina.

Long-time Timberland partners SkillsUSA and The National FFA Organization will kick off this week’s service by joining forces with Habitat for Humanity to install
three Habitat homes in Hammond, Louisiana – one of the fastest-growing cities in the state, and one whose population nearly doubled following the events of Hurricane
Katrina last year. The Hammond Habitat homes project will take place today and tomorrow (December 11 and 12).

On Wednesday, December 13, 350 Timberland employees and partners will work to revitalize and transform ten city blocks of the Oretha Castle-Haley Boulevard in the
center of New Orleans. Specific service projects include:
• Painting community murals designed by local artists
• Renovating Café Reconcile, a nonprofit restaurant dedicated to training and developing local youth as hospitality and restaurant industry professionals
• Landscaping, both as a means to beautify the Boulevard and to help prevent future flooding
• Landscaping at the McDonogh 38/Myrtle Banks School to support the building’s conversion into a Civil Rights Museum
• Renovating elderly homes and a community center in preparation for future rebuilding

This service event comes as part of Timberland’s semi-annual Sales Meeting, which includes service and community-based investment as a means to leave positive,
sustainable impact in the meeting’s “host” city. This year’s impact expands scale and scope given the historic scale of need and the company’s commitment since
August 2005. Congressman John Lewis, noted humanitarian and Civil Rights leader, will be on hand to lend inspiration for the week’s events and to launch Timberland’s
John Lewis Fellowship – a values leadership training for selected Timberland employees.

blog:TIMBERLAND SETS NEW STANDARD FOR PRODUCT TRANSPARENCY AND INCREASES EFFORTS TO MINIMIZE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
Aug 21st, 2009 by admin

The Timberland Company today introduces new, environmentally-friendlier packaging for its footwear products and a product information label that details aspects of the
company’s environmental and community footprint. The new packaging and labeling will be available in stores with Fall 2006 footwear.

The packaging and labeling initiative further reinforces Timberland’s environmental leadership among retail companies. Highlights of the new packaging and labeling
include:

• The “Our Footprint” label informs consumers about aspects of Timberland’s environmental and community impact.
• Footwear boxes made of 100 percent recycled post-consumer waste fiber that use no chemical glues and only soy-based inks for the printing of labels.
• Messaging and call to action that asks consumers “What kind of footprint will you leave?”
• The next evolution of the packaging will feature a “Green Index” hangtag, which will provide a product-specific rating of select environmental factors (on five
shoes in Spring 2007).

“Timberland is constantly looking for new ways to reduce our environmental impact in every facet of product development, manufacturing and delivery,” said Jeffrey
Swartz, Timberland’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “We believe that we’re going to see an industry shift towards greater product transparency for consumers
and that they’ll come to expect that from all of the companies they do business with. Consumers deserve the most information possible to make intelligent purchasing
decisions. We hope other retail companies will see the importance of these practices.”

The “Our Footprint” label appears on the side of each footwear box and provides consumers with insight into Timberland’s environmental and community impact. It
resembles the “Nutrition Facts” label found on food and beverage products and offers consumers a recognizable format to learn more about the company’s efforts. The
label consists of three sections:

• Environmental Impact: Provides the average amount of kilowatt hours (kWh) needed to produce a pair of Timberland® footwear; in addition, it indicates the amount of
Timberland’s energy that is generated from renewable resources such as the sun, wind or water.
• Community Impact: Details what percentage of factories are assessed by against the company’s code of conduct, reiterates Timberland’s strict no child labor
policies, and shares the total number of hours volunteered in the community by Timberland employees.
• Manufactured: Lists the name and location of the factory where the product was made.

blog:TIMBERLAND AMONG TOP TEN “100 BEST CORPORATE CITIZENS”
Aug 21st, 2009 by admin

For the seventh consecutive year, Timberland has been recognized by Business Ethics Magazine as a “100 Best Corporate Citizen” for its corporate social
responsibility efforts. In its Spring 2006 issue, Business Ethics Magazine reveals the results of a survey that ranks companies’ performances based upon best
practices in eight stakeholder categories: shareholders, community, governance, diversity, employees, environment, human rights and product.

“We are very honored by this distinction and humbled to be among such esteemed companies,” said Jeffrey Swartz, Timberland’s President and CEO. “Conducting our
business in the most socially responsible manner and driving positive change in the industry and in the communities we operate in will continue to be among our top
priorities.”

Timberland received considerable recognition for its environmental stewardship, community involvement and encouragement of employee volunteerism. Timberland is ranked
sixth overall and is the only apparel and footwear company in the top ten. In 2006, Timberland joins Green Mountain Coffee, Hewlett-Packard, Advanced Micro Devices,
Motorola, Agilent, Salesforce.com, Cisco Systems, Dell and Texas Instruments.

In 2005, the company strengthened its commitment to manufacture products and conduct business in a socially responsible way. To reduce its environmental impact,
Timberland increased its use of renewable energy and resources. In support of its concerns about human rights, Timberland worked with Academy Award nominee Don Cheadle
to create a limited edition “Save Darfur” boot to raise awareness of the crisis and inspire civil and political action to help stop the genocide. Timberland also
designed “Save Darfur” t-shirts and boot hangtags to inspire consumers and generate funds to help create change in the Sudan.

In 2006, the company is continuing to live by its mission to “Make it Better.” In the first four months of the year alone, Timberland has engaged in several
initiatives that will extend its excellence in corporate social responsibility. In January, it announced new, environmentally-friendly packaging and an industry first,
a “nutritional label” for its footwear products. The label will provide consumers with fully transparent information about the manufacture of the products. On the
retail front, Timberland will continue to renovate its retail stores by using recycled and recyclable materials. The company is also introducing a line of products
made of organic and all natural fibers including hemp.

In April, Timberland kicked off its 9th Annual Earth Day celebrations with the unveiling of its solar array at its Ontario, California Distribution Center. The solar
array will generate approximately 60% of the facility’s power and will reduce its output of greenhouse gases by 480,000 pounds of carbon emissions. The solar array is
one of the world’s 50 largest solar panels and the first in California’s Inland Empire.
